The Broncos offense was finally efficient last week and that bodes well for Sutton moving forward. His 27.8% target share is well ahead of Jerry Jeudy to lead the team and his 275 air yards are fourth most in the entire NFL only behind Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, and Chris Olave.
The Colts defense is ranked 27th in pass DVOA and 2nd in rush DVOA, so there’s reason to believe Nathaniel Hackett decides to air it out tonight. Moreover, the loss of Javonte Williams gives Denver even more of a reason to use a pass-heavy gameplan and that will leave Sutton plenty of opportunities to get behind the defense.
I’m still incredibly high on Pittman as a player and a talent, this matchup just scares me. Matt Ryan has looked incredibly old so far this season, especially in the face of pressure. Bradley Chubb is coming on strong for Denver and the Colts’ offensive line has been trending down.
Also, Pittman will be shadowed by Patrick Surtain II who’s rapidly developing into a true lockdown cornerback. He’s been matched up with D.K. Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, Brandin Cooks, and Davante Adams so far this season and has been targeted just 26 times. Those 26 targets have been turned into a measly 106 yards.
The loss on Jonathan Taylor may make the Colts more pass-happy, but I think it could just sink this offense for a week.
Back-up quarterbacks have been all the rage on Mojo this season. Kenny Pickett’s stock rose more than 20% before he ever stepped on the field and is now sitting at a 53% increase (before multipliers) after being named the starter. Sam Howell’s stock has benefitted from spotty play from Carson Wentz. Desmond Ridder is sitting at a 23% gain as well without seeing game action with Marcus Mariota’s play decidedly mediocre. Bailey Zappe, Teddy Bridgewater and Andy Dalton’s stocks have also seen upticks due to injuries.
The Colts’ season is in danger of spiraling out of control and that could force coach Frank Reich’s hand to see what they have in Ehlinger. His preseason tape was phenomenal and he’s physically capable of playing the position. His stock will soar if there is any indication he could get an opportunity to play this year.
