Finally, it’s here.

The holy grail: the world’s first true sports stock market.

My first “I knew it” athlete was Lebron James. He was playing at an unprecedented level during the mid-2000’s, but all ESPN and my friends seemed to want to discuss was how he was unclutch. I knew they were wrong about him!

I chanted Rajon Rondo’s name on draft day 2006. Ditto Nikola Jokic in 2014. (The Knicks selected Renaldo Balkman and Cleanthony Early instead, lol.) I couldn’t believe the Jets traded up to draft Mark Sanchez in ‘09!

It was fun to be right. But it was not profitable!

Today’s Options:

1. Traditional Bets: Between the rake sports books take when you win and fleeting excitement, it never hooked me. What does +130 mean again? I’m confused.
2. Fantasy Sports: A great hobby to share with friends & family. I could never get into DFS. I don’t want to build a new lineup every night or guess if Mahomes will beat a fantasy projection. I love the dynasty football format, but you can’t buy & sell any player, any time. Is anyone trading me Ja’Marr Chase? No.
3. Sports Cards: I hit it big buying Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum rookie cards in 2019. I have since been completely broken by volatility, endless trips to the post office, transaction costs and card grading fees.
4. Sports NFTs: When NBA Top Shot exploded I was already wise to issues that inevitably arise with assets without intrinsic value and liquidity concerns.
